WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representatives Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26), Carlos Giménez (FL-28), and María Elvira Salazar (FL-27) have raised concerns about the Department of Homeland Security's readiness for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by the United States in eleven different sites, including the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

In a letter addressed to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the representatives highlighted the lack of information and preparation from the administration regarding security measures for the World Cup. They expressed worries about the insufficient funding allocated for security planning, with only $16 million for the Secret Service and $800 thousand for DHS's Intelligence and Analysis operations.

Miami International Airport (MIA) was specifically mentioned in the letter, with authorities stating the need for additional personnel to handle the security and logistical challenges expected from the influx of international travelers during the World Cup. Without adequate preparation, the representatives warned that the delays at MIA could become unmanageable.

The letter also posed several important questions to DHS, including inquiries about the plan to manage traveler flow, the funding needed to address security challenges, preparations for national security concerns, and strategies to prevent criminal activities during the World Cup events.

The representatives emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and security of Americans and international visitors during the World Cup, urging DHS to take proactive measures to handle the large gatherings effectively. They also stressed the significance of showcasing the beauty of U.S. cities while maintaining a focus on safety and efficiency.

The concerns raised in the letter underscore the need for thorough planning and coordination to guarantee a successful and secure FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States.
