Today, Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security, State Department, and Related Programs, issued a statement following the release of the Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations Bill for Homeland Security, State Department, and Related Programs.
“As chairman of the subcommittee that funds U.S. national security interests abroad, I am pleased that the funding bill for fiscal year 2026 has been approved by the House Appropriations Committee. Together we are advancing President Trump’s America First foreign policy with a 22 percent reduction in funding compared to levels enacted for fiscal year 2025 while further strengthening U.S. national security.”
The bill supports President Trump’s vision of peace through strength by restoring American leadership and maintaining solidarity with allies.

The appropriations bill provides $46.218 billion in discretionary funding, which is $13.13 billion (22%) below the level enacted for fiscal year 2025.
Within total cuts, solid funding is maintained for allies like Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and Taiwan while countering adversaries such as Communist China and Iran.
It promotes America First Foreign Policy by redefining foreign assistance to promote self-sufficiency among key U.S. allies.
It also supports Trump Administration priorities like eliminating unnecessary spending on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs.
The bill strengthens U.S. border protections with assistance to key partners like Egypt and Jordan.
Funding includes $500 million for Taiwan’s military financing program to strengthen deterrence across the Taiwan Strait.
Support is provided to counter China’s influence with $400 million allocated to combat Chinese influence efforts globally.
U.S.-Cuba relations see strict conditions imposed on financial assistance due to Cuba’s activities perceived as hostile towards U.S. interests.
“Promoting freedom in the Western Hemisphere: $35 million for democracy programs in Cuba; $50 million in Venezuela,” says another part of Díaz-Balart’s statement about how this legislation aligns with America’s broader goals regarding regional stability issues impacting hemispheric partners including Colombia or Nicaragua where additional resources may be necessary given recent political
