House Appropriations Committee Vice Chair Mario Díaz-Balart has issued a statement on the Office of Management and Budget’s rescissions package. In his role as Chairman of the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee, Díaz-Balart emphasized his commitment to aligning funding priorities with American values.
Díaz-Balart highlighted his track record in advancing U.S. national security interests while addressing what he described as wasteful spending from the previous administration. He noted that his fiscal year 2024 National Security and Department of State funding bill achieved a six percent cut compared to FY 2023, marking it as the largest reduction among all appropriations bills for that year. The FY 2025 version passed by the House further reduced funding by 11% from FY 2024 levels.
He expressed pride in budget hearings conducted with Biden Administration officials for FY 2024 and FY 2025, where he voiced concerns about taxpayer money being used for programs that did not align with U.S. national security interests or values.
Díaz-Balart acknowledged that while the $9.4 billion rescissions package is “not perfect,” it aligns with former President Trump’s vision of restoring conservative fiscal policies. He expressed eagerness to collaborate with Trump’s administration to prioritize initiatives beneficial to American citizens and national security.
