Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, representing Florida’s 26th district and serving as Chairman of the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee of the House Committee on Appropriations, has publicly recognized Rosa María Payá for her recent election to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
In his statement, Díaz-Balart expressed his admiration for Payá’s dedication to human rights. “Congratulations to Rosa María Payá on her election to serve as member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights,” he stated. He further emphasized her lifelong commitment to freedom and human rights in Cuba and other regions under authoritarian regimes. “Rosa María has dedicated her life to supporting freedom for the Cuban people and others living in tyranny in our hemisphere, while ensuring that we never forget the sacrifice that so many have made in the struggle for freedom. She will be an effective, dedicated, and knowledgeable advocate for human rights.”
Díaz-Balart reiterated similar sentiments in Spanish, acknowledging Payá’s advocacy efforts within a broader context of promoting liberty across oppressed regions.
