Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart has expressed his support for the Trump Administration’s recent action to withdraw from the 2019 Tomato Suspension Agreement. This decision, according to Díaz-Balart, fulfills a promise made by President Trump to prioritize American farmers.
In his statement, Díaz-Balart said, “I applaud the Trump Administration for keeping its promise to prioritize farmers by following through on its decision to officially withdraw from this unfair and one-sided agreement.”
The congressman emphasized that Florida farmers have suffered under foreign trade deals like the Tomato Suspension Agreement. He noted these agreements have allowed an influx of Mexican tomatoes into U.S. markets, disadvantaging American tomato growers.
Díaz-Balart further stated, “After multiple engagements with the U.S. Department of Commerce, I am pleased with the Administration’s decision to withdraw from the 2019 Agreement suspending the Antidumping Investigation on Fresh Tomatoes from Mexico.” He called it a significant victory for Florida farmers and highlighted it as an example of President Trump’s America First trade policies.
He concluded by thanking President Trump and his administration for supporting fair trade policies and holding Mexican tomato exporters accountable.
