Rep. Frederica Wilson, U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 24th district since 2011, addressed several issues in a series of posts on her official social media account between August 14 and August 15, 2025.
On August 14, Wilson marked the beginning of the school year for Miami-Dade County Public Schools by posting: “Happy first day of school @MDCPS! Wishing students, parents, and faculty a blessed school year. May it be filled with learning, growth, and success!”
Later that same day, she focused on Social Security protections: “Americans earn Social Security through a lifetime of hard work, and those benefits must be protected. While some seek to undermine Social Security, I’m committed to protecting and strengthening Social Security for every American.”
On August 15, Wilson criticized recent legislative developments affecting healthcare access: “The ‘Big, Ugly Law’ puts a bullet hole right through Medicaid and the Affordable Healthcare Act. Starting this November, the Affordable Care Act open enrollment will bring higher premiums. This is unacceptable—we should be improving healthcare, not undercutting it.”
Frederica Wilson has served in Congress since replacing Kendrick Meek in 2011 and previously held seats in both the Florida Senate (2002-2010) and the Florida House of Representatives (1998-2002). She was born in Miami in 1942 and currently resides in Miami Gardens. Wilson graduated from Fisk University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963.
