Rep. Frederica Wilson, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 24th district since 2011, used her social media account on August 27, 2025, to address several pressing national issues and promote an upcoming virtual event.
In her first post of the day, Wilson criticized recent legislative changes: “The ‘Big, Ugly Law’ slashes healthcare, food aid, and student loan support—it’s heartless. And with rising authoritarianism, our nation is at a crisis. Join my teletown hall tonight: call 866-295-1797 at 6:30 PM, or watch live on YouTube, Facebook or at https://t.co/uD82ZtxcKR.” (August 27, 2025). She encouraged constituents to participate in her teletown hall meeting later that evening.
Later the same day, Wilson responded to news of violence in Minnesota: “This is horrifying! My heart breaks for the victims of the Minneapolis school shooting, especially the children whose lives were taken. As a parent, former teacher and principal, I can’t fathom such cruelty. Gun violence has no place in schools, and this cannot be normalized!” (August 27, 2025).
Ahead of her scheduled event, she posted a reminder: “LESS THAN 2 HOURS TILL OUR TELETOWN HALL STARTS! Make sure to tune in!” (August 27, 2025).
Frederica Wilson has represented Florida’s 24th District in Congress since succeeding Kendrick Meek in 2011 and previously served in both chambers of the Florida legislature. Born in Miami in 1942 and currently residing in Miami Gardens, Wilson graduated from Fisk University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963.
