Rep. Frederica Wilson, U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 24th district since 2011, addressed public health and environmental issues in a series of posts on September 3, 2025.

In one post, Wilson, who is a former teacher and principal, highlighted the importance of childhood immunizations: “As a former teacher and principal, I know how vital childhood vaccinations are. Ending vaccine mandates puts the whole community at risk of preventable diseases. Decades of research show the effectiveness of vaccines, and we cannot just disregard the health of our children.” (September 3, 2025)

Wilson also criticized Joseph Ladapo’s leadership as Florida’s Surgeon General and called for his removal: “Joseph Ladapo’s tenure as Florida’s Surgeon General has been marred by misinformation and harmful narratives. Enough is enough—Governor DeSantis must fire him, or Joseph Ladapo must resign before more harm is done.” (September 3, 2025)

Later that day, Wilson referenced her role as the top Democrat on the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee after meeting with the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works: “As the top Democrat on the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee, I was glad to meet the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, who supports our nation’s water infrastructure. I’m committed to improving South Florida’s water quality and Everglades restoration.” (September 3, 2025)

Wilson has represented Florida’s 24th District in Congress since replacing Kendrick Meek in 2011. She previously served in both chambers of the Florida Legislature from 1998 to 2010. Born in Miami in 1942, she continues to reside in Miami Gardens and holds a degree from Fisk University.
