Rep. Frederica Wilson, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 24th district since 2011, expressed strong opposition to a recent piece of legislation through a series of tweets on July 3, 2025. Wilson criticized the bill for its potential negative impacts on healthcare and food assistance programs.
In her first tweet, Wilson described the legislation as “one of the most vicious, heartless, and morally bankrupt pieces of legislation” she has encountered during her time in Congress. She emphasized that “people will die from this bill, hospitals will close, and folks will go hungry thanks to Medicaid and food assistance being cut.” Read more.
Continuing her critique in a subsequent tweet posted moments later, Wilson outlined the expected consequences: “17M will lose their health care, 5M will lose access to SNAP, 15.6M children will have free and reduced lunch impacted, 1.4M students will lose their Pell grants,” adding that “42M borrowers with student debt can expect increased payments—all to give tax breaks to billionaires.” Read more.
In another post on the same day, Wilson highlighted concerns specific to her constituency: “I represent an immigrant rich community,” she stated. She criticized plans that would result in millions losing healthcare and food assistance while funding is directed towards ICE operations like “Alligator Alcatraz,” which she sees as antagonistic toward immigrant communities.
