Rep. Frederica Wilson, who represents Florida’s 24th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared a series of posts on social media highlighting her participation in local events and expressing concern over national legislation.
On August 29, 2025, Wilson posted about her involvement at the start of a major community event: “It’s the Orange Blossom Classic Weekend, and I’m so happy to help kick it off at the @GreaterMiamiCVB Commissioner’s Luncheon! The excitement of this weekend never wears off and I’m always proud to support our HBCUs!”
Later that day, she noted her encounters with several public figures ahead of the festivities: “Always great to see Gabrielle Union; Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade; and Danette Anthony Reed, International President and CEO of @akasorority1908, ahead of the Orange Blossom Classic weekend!”
The following morning, Wilson turned her attention to legislative matters, criticizing a new law she referred to as “Big, Ugly Law.” On August 30, 2025, she wrote: “The ‘Big, Ugly Law’ will cause pain and suffering throughout the nation. It attacks healthcare, food assistance, education, and so much more. Learn more about its devastating impact”
Wilson has represented Florida’s 24th district since 2011 after succeeding Kendrick Meek. She previously served in both chambers of the Florida legislature from 1998 through 2010. Born in Miami in 1942 and currently residing in Miami Gardens, Wilson is an alumna of Fisk University (BA ’63).
