U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson, who serves Florida’s 24th district, shared her perspective on the state of the union through a series of posts on February 25, 2026. In her comments, Wilson emphasized the importance of focusing on everyday experiences rather than official speeches.
Wilson stated, “The true state of our union is not what is said at a podium tonight. It is what families feel at their kitchen tables.” She further clarified her role as a legislator by saying, “I could sit in that chamber, but my job isn’t to clap on cue. My job is to fight for underserved communities, including immigrants, youth, seniors, and low-income families who deserve real action.” In another post from the same date, Wilson reaffirmed her commitment to her constituents: “I will always stand with the people of FL-24 and keep doing the work, whether I am in that room or not.”
Frederica Wilson has represented Florida’s 24th district in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Kendrick Meek. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Florida Senate from 2002 to 2010 and in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002. Wilson was born in Miami in 1942 and currently resides in Miami Gardens. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fisk University in 1963.
