Rep. Frederica Wilson, U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 24th district since 2011, marked Labor Day and the Orange Blossom Classic festivities in Miami Gardens with a series of posts on September 1, 2025.

In her first post of the day, Wilson highlighted local celebrations honoring historically Black fraternities and sororities: “Street signs blazing the names of the Divine 9 line the streets of Miami Gardens, Florida! The celebration culminated at the Orange Blossom Classic—FAMU vs. HOWARD at Hard Rock Stadium!” (September 1, 2025).

Later that morning, she addressed workers across the nation in recognition of Labor Day: “Happy Labor Day! Today we honor the workers who power our country and the labor movement that has fought for fair wages, safe workplaces, and a strong middle class. Thank you to all our workers, and we must remain committed to building on the progress made.” (September 1, 2025).

In another post that afternoon, Wilson celebrated a local mentorship organization’s participation at a major sporting event: “The 5000 Role Models of Excellence proudly showed up in full force at the Orange Blossom Classic, carrying the flag during our national anthem. What an amazing day! We couldn’t be prouder of them! #WeAre5000 “ (September 1, 2025).

Wilson was born in Miami in 1942 and currently resides in Miami Gardens. She graduated from Fisk University with a BA in 1963 and previously served in both chambers of Florida’s state legislature before entering Congress.
