Congresswoman Frederica Wilson expressed her concerns through a series of tweets regarding both social justice issues and cultural festivities. The tweets highlight her recent reflections on immigration policies and her excitement about the upcoming cultural event in Florida.

On April 24, 2025, Wilson shared her dismay following a visit to the ICE Krome Detention Center, noting, “Today was a sad day for me. I toured the ICE Krome Detention Center today—43 years after my first visit—and it’s still plagued by same terrible conditions. ICE is targeting countless hardworking immigrants, our neighbors, who deserve better.” Wilson’s visit was an inspection after many years, and she found that the conditions had not improved, expressing concerns about the treatment of immigrants.

In another tweet on the same day, Wilson emphasized America’s identity as a nation of immigrants, stating, “We must decide what kind of nation we want to be. America is a nation of immigrants, and every person deserves dignity. Our government must end its reign of terror against immigrant communities. PERIOD.” Her statement underscores a call for respect and dignity toward immigrant communities.

Furthermore, on April 25, 2025, Wilson celebrated her cultural heritage and announced an upcoming cultural event. In her tweet, she mentioned, “I am proud of my Bahamian background and it’s almost that time of year to kick off the Coconut Grove Bahamian Goombay Festival of 2025. So mark your calendars for June 6 through June 8, and make sure to come to Grand Avenue to celebrate Bahamian culture!” This invitation to the festival highlights her dedication to celebrating cultural diversity.

Frederica Wilson is serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 24th district. She has been active in Congress since 2011 and has a background in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives. Born in 1942 in Miami, Florida, she continues to reside in Miami Gardens. Wilson holds a Bachelor of Arts from Fisk University.
