Rep. Frederica Wilson, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 24th district, shared insights and updates on her official social media account. With a background as a public school teacher and principal, Wilson acknowledged the significance of Teacher Appreciation Week in one of her posts.
On May 5, 2025, Wilson commemorated educators with her message: “Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! As a former public school teacher and principal, I know how hard they work. Teachers are the backbone of our community and future—let’s thank them today and every day for all they do to support our children!”
Later that day, Wilson addressed immigration issues following her visit to an ICE facility: “The ICE Broward Transitional Center is the second ICE facility I’ve visited this year. Members of Congress must keep showing up—deaths and inhumane treatment of immigrant detainees can’t go unchecked. We are an immigrant-rich nation and we must do better as a country.” This statement highlights ongoing concerns regarding the treatment of immigrants.
On May 6, 2025, she highlighted infrastructural developments facilitated by legislative efforts she supported: “NEWS: The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law — which I proudly cosponsored and President Biden signed — continues to deliver! Miami International Airport is getting $35 million for terminal upgrades, and PortMiami is receiving $5 million to develop its net-zero cargo supply chain.” These updates underscore progress stemming from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Frederica Wilson has served in various political roles since 1998, beginning with positions in Florida’s state legislature before assuming office in Congress in 2011. Born in Miami Gardens in 1942, she holds a BA from Fisk University.
