Last week, U.S. Representative Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26), Co-Chair of the Latino-Jewish Caucus, along with fellow Co-Chairs Representatives Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), and Tony Gonzales (TX-23), sponsored a resolution to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the AMIA Jewish Community Center bombing in Buenos Aires. The resolution demands justice and accountability for those responsible for the attack.

“Today, we honor and mourn the 85 innocent lives, overwhelmingly members of Argentina’s Jewish community, who were brutally murdered, and the more than 300 injured, in the deadliest antisemitic terrorist attack in Argentina’s history,” said Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart. He emphasized his commitment to demanding justice for the perpetrators, including Iran’s former Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz noted that “more than three decades after the tragic AMIA Jewish Center bombing, there’s still no justice for the 85 victims.” She stressed that this attack on Argentina’s Jewish community cannot go unanswered amid rising global antisemitism.

Representative Espaillat highlighted that as co-chair of the Latino-Jewish Congressional Caucus, he supports reintroducing this resolution to ensure justice for each victim. “Terrorism and antisemitism have no place in our society,” he stated.

Gonzales remarked on the need for steady voices in Congress to combat antisemitism. “We will never forget the victims,” he said.

Dina Siegel Vann from The Arthur and Rochelle Belfer Institute commended the caucus leaders for their commitment to advancing truth and justice while highlighting Iran’s destabilizing activities globally.

The bipartisan Latino-Jewish Congressional Caucus was established in 2011 with support from the American Jewish Committee. It aims to strengthen bonds between Latino and Jewish communities and address rising antisemitism worldwide.

The House Resolution condemns the 1994 attack on AMIA, honors victims’ memories, calls for accountability of Iranian and Hezbollah operatives involved, commends Argentina’s designation of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, and urges international compliance with arrest orders related to the attack.
