Mario Díaz-Balart, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003 and a Miami resident, addressed several international and domestic issues in a series of posts on his social media account between March 17 and March 18, 2026.
On March 17, Díaz-Balart urged the Cuban government not to interfere with an ongoing investigation involving a maritime incident from February: “Es imprescindible que el régimen en #Cuba no obstaculice la investigación del incidente marítimo del 25 de febrero de 2026 y permita al Departamento de Estado de EE.UU. pleno acceso consular al ciudadano estadounidense bajo su custodia, conforme a lo establecido en la Convención” (March 17, 2026).
Later that day, he commented on the effects of a Department of Homeland Security shutdown on airport operations across the United States: “Inflicting pain on the public is a bad negotiating tactic, and the DHS shutdown is being felt acutely at the nation’s airports, as the Transportation Security Administration deals with employees calling out of work.” (March 17, 2026).
On March 18, Díaz-Balart congratulated Venezuela for its win in an international baseball tournament: “Congratulations to Venezuela on a historic World Baseball Classic Championship victory! Proud to represent so many Venezuelan-Americans in Florida’s 26th District, whose love for freedom, resilience, and passion were on full display through this team. “ (March 18, 2026).
Díaz-Balart has held office in Congress since January 2003 after serving terms in both chambers of Florida’s state legislature. Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently residing in Miami, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida.
