Mario Díaz-Balart, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003 and a Miami resident, posted a series of statements on February 24, 2026, addressing historical violence against Americans, his congressional responsibilities regarding national security, and religious persecution abroad.

In his first post of the day, Díaz-Balart recalled a violent incident from three decades prior: “Hace treinta años, Raúl Castro perpetró un ataque brutal que asesinó a estadounidenses inocentes cuya única misión era salvar vidas. Nos reunimos no solo para honrar su memoria, sino también para reafirmar que los crímenes contra estadounidenses no pueden ser ignorados,” he wrote on February 24, 2026.

Later that day, Díaz-Balart invited followers to observe his role in leading a federal hearing: “Tune in to watch as I lead my first National Security and Department of State hearing for Fiscal Year 2027. Created by President Reagan to confront communism and America’s enemies abroad, @NEDemocracy continues to advance @realDonaldTrump’s America First foreign policy” (February 24, 2026).

In a subsequent statement about official travel to Nigeria, Díaz-Balart addressed religious violence: “During my official travel to Nigeria, I heard directly from witnesses and experts about the horrific violence being carried out against Christians. No one should face persecution or death for practicing their faith. President Trump’s America First foreign policy makes clear” (February 24, 2026).

Díaz-Balart has held public office for decades—serving previously in both chambers of the Florida legislature before his election to Congress—and holds a BA from the University of South Florida. Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961, he has maintained longstanding ties to South Florida throughout his career.
