Mario Díaz-Balart, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, recently addressed issues affecting his state through a series of tweets. Born in Fort Lauderdale and currently residing in Miami, Díaz-Balart has a long history of public service, including time spent in the Florida House of Representatives and Senate.
On June 18, 2025, Díaz-Balart highlighted the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Ian on social media. He stated that “Hurricanes Irma and Ian caused immense damage to our state, particularly in Everglades City, Chokoloskee, and surrounding areas.” He expressed concern over the United States Postal Service’s decision to halt local operations without notifying customers, which he noted had adversely impacted the delivery of critical mail.
Later that day, Díaz-Balart shared his recent engagement at Florida International University (FIU), tweeting about his opportunity to discuss security concerns: “Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak at Florida International University @FIU regarding current threats in the Western Hemisphere and their implications for U.S. national security.” He thanked FIU President Jeanette Nuñez for her hospitality during this event.
In another tweet posted on June 18, 2025, Díaz-Balart congratulated Jeanette Nuñez on her new role as FIU President. He praised her dedication to public service by stating: “Proud to congratulate my dear friend Jeanette Nuñez on her confirmation as the seventh @FIUPresident.” Díaz-Balart commended her inspiring commitment to South Florida’s community.
Díaz-Balart graduated from the University of South Florida with a BA degree and has built a career centered around serving his community both locally and nationally.
