Mario Díaz-Balart, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, posted a series of messages on social media between July 18 and July 21, 2025, addressing legislative efforts on national security and commemorating international events.
On July 18, Díaz-Balart announced his continued advocacy in Congress to restrict access for certain countries to U.S. facilities. In the post he wrote: “Me enorgullece que, una vez más, el proyecto de ley de financiamiento THUD para el año fiscal 2026 incluya mi firme y contundente prohibición que bloquea el acceso a instalaciones estadounidenses a los patrocinadores estatales del terrorismo como Cuba, Irán, Siria y Corea del” (July 18, 2025).
Later that day, Díaz-Balart referenced the anniversary of Argentina’s deadliest antisemitic attack. He stated: “Earlier this week, I joined in honoring and mourning the 85 innocent lives who were brutally murdered, and the more than 300 injured, in the deadliest antisemitic terrorist attack in Argentina’s history. On July 18, 1994, the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA)” (July 18, 2025).
On July 21—Colombia’s Independence Day—Díaz-Balart sent greetings to Colombians through another message: “Hoy, en el día que se celebra la independencia de Colombia, envío mi cordial y respetuoso saludo al pueblo colombiano, que mantiene intacto su deseo de libertad, justicia y democracia, valores que comparte con el pueblo de EE. UU.
Mi deseo es que este noble pueblo mantenga sus” (July 21, 2025).
Díaz-Balart has held office as a member of Congress since January 2003 after previously serving in both chambers of Florida’s state legislature from the late eighties through to the year two thousand.[source] Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently residing in Miami,[source] he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida.[source]
