Mario Díaz-Balart, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, announced via social media the introduction of new legislation targeting the Muslim Brotherhood (MB). On July 16, 2025, Díaz-Balart stated that he and Rep. Jared Moskowitz introduced a companion bill to Senator Ted Cruz’s proposal to designate the global Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.
Díaz-Balart posted on his X account: “The MB is a transnational Islamist organization that supports localized branches in various countries and territories and poses a direct threat to U.S. national security through its radical jihadist efforts to eliminate and destroy America and its allies.” (July 16, 2025).
In another post from the same day, Díaz-Balart wrote: “In case you missed it, @RepMoskowitz and I introduced the companion bill to @SenTedCruz’s legislation to designate the global Muslim Brotherhood (MB) as a terrorist organization.” (July 16, 2025).

Mario Díaz-Balart has served in Congress since 2003 after prior service in both chambers of Florida’s legislature. He was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently resides in Miami. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida.
