Mario Díaz-Balart, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, posted several messages on his social media account in mid-March 2026 addressing issues related to Cuba and U.S. homeland security.

On March 14, 2026, Díaz-Balart called for freedom in Cuba with the message: “#makecubagreatagain

¡Libertad para Cuba!

¡Libertad para el pueblo cubano!

¡Libertad para todos los presos políticos!

#PatriaYVida”. The post was followed by another tweet containing only a link: “https://t.co/EVX788FH7A” at 16:36 UTC on the same day.

Two days later, on March 16, Díaz-Balart addressed concerns about TSA agents missing paychecks during a government shutdown. He wrote: “TSA agents missed their first full paycheck last Friday, and Americans are missing their flights because Senate Democrats have voted time and again to deny resources for homeland security operations and personnel.

The shutdown could be over today – and TSA agents would be paid,”.

Díaz-Balart has served in Congress since 2003 after previous terms in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961, he is currently based in Miami. He holds a BA from the University of South Florida.
