Mario Díaz-Balart, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, has recently used his social media platform to comment on issues related to national security, foreign policy, and drug enforcement.
On March 12, 2026, Díaz-Balart criticized Democratic senators for their stance on a Department of Homeland Security agreement: “Call Senator Schumer and all other Democratic senators who are rejecting a bipartisan, bicameral DHS agreement they helped negotiate in the first place. Make it make sense! Senate Dems, once again, are choosing this shutdown, even as threats against the homeland rise.”
The following day, he addressed U.S.-Cuba relations by reiterating a hardline position: “The only talks with the Cuban regime are about its time being up. No concessions. No negotiations. As President Trump has stated repeatedly and recently, ‘Cuba is at the end of the line.'” This statement reflects ongoing tensions between the U.S. government and Cuba regarding diplomatic engagement.
Later that same day, Díaz-Balart praised law enforcement cooperation between the United States and Bolivia following an arrest linked to drug trafficking: “The capture of this drug trafficker is a major win for regional security. Thanks to the strong leadership of @Rodrigo_PazP and growing U.S.-Bolivia law enforcement cooperation, another criminal network is being dismantled. Through initiatives like the Shield of the Americas,”
Díaz-Balart was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently resides in Miami. He previously served in both chambers of Florida’s state legislature before entering Congress and holds a BA from the University of South Florida.
