Mario Díaz-Balart, a long-standing representative serving Florida’s 26th District in the U.S. Congress since 2003, has expressed concerns regarding the welfare and conditions of political prisoners in Cuba through a series of tweets. Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and currently residing in Miami, Díaz-Balart previously served in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate.
He emphasized that “Cualquier daño que sufran será responsabilidad del”—addressing the accountability of the Cuban regime for these activists’ safety.
In a subsequent tweet on the same date, Díaz-Balart reiterated his concerns in English: “I remain profoundly concerned for the welfare of brave pro-democracy activists José Daniel Ferrer and Félix Navarro, and all political prisoners Cuba, and demand their immediate and unconditional release. Should any harm come to them, the regime is responsible and will be held.” This statement underscores his demand for the activists’ release and highlights the regime’s accountability.
Later that day, Díaz-Balart tweeted gratitude towards those who serve or have served in the armed forces. He stated, “Thank you to the brave men and women who are serving and have served in our armed forces. We are grateful for your dedication to defending our country and protecting the freedoms we enjoy today.” This acknowledgment reflects his appreciation for military service members’ contributions to national defense and freedom.
Mario Díaz-Balart, an alumnus of the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree, continues to advocate for democracy and military appreciation in his political endeavors.
