Mario Díaz-Balart, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003 and previously a member of the Florida House of Representatives and Senate, has posted a series of messages on his X (formerly Twitter) account highlighting the ongoing detention of Venezuelan opposition figure Juan Pablo Guanipa.

Shortly after, he shared another brief post: ” https://t.co/DzGensJLyb” (November 6, 2025).
Díaz-Balart’s comments come amid ongoing concerns about human rights in Venezuela under Nicolás Maduro’s government. The posts reference the case of Juan Pablo Guanipa, an opposition leader whose detention has drawn criticism from international observers for lack of due process and alleged isolation.
Mario Díaz-Balart was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently resides in Miami. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida. As a long-serving legislator with experience at both state and federal levels, Díaz-Balart frequently addresses issues related to Latin America and human rights violations.
