Mario Díaz-Balart, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, made a series of posts on September 4, 2025, criticizing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and expressing support for Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

In his first post at 18:32 UTC, Díaz-Balart wrote: “Anti-American and illegitimate dictator Maduro is the kingpin of a narcoterrorist organization in our hemisphere. The time of impunity, complicity, and weakness under the Biden Administration is over.

Díaz-Balart has been an active figure in U.S. politics for decades. He began his career in the Florida House of Representatives from 1988 to 1992 and then served in the Florida Senate until 2000. Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently residing in Miami, Díaz-Balart graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s degree.

The tweets reference longstanding tensions between the United States government and Nicolás Maduro’s administration in Venezuela. Díaz-Balart’s comments come amid continued political unrest and international scrutiny regarding alleged corruption and human rights abuses within Venezuela’s leadership.
