Mario Díaz-Balart, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 26th District, recently shared updates on various initiatives and events through social media. The congressman has been serving since 2003, following his earlier tenure in the Florida House of Representatives and Senate.
On May 6, 2025, Díaz-Balart tweeted about his meeting with David Schaecter, a Holocaust survivor who is now 95 years old. Schaecter is among approximately 240,000 survivors alive today from the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis eighty years ago. Díaz-Balart noted Schaecter’s role as President of the Holocaust Survivors Foundation USA.
Later that day, Díaz-Balart commented on the success of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. He highlighted the impressive turnout with 175 pieces of student artwork displayed. Díaz-Balart expressed pride in hosting this competition for over two decades and described it as one of their best events to date.
In another post on May 6, Díaz-Balart encouraged constituents to sign up for free emergency and weather alerts provided by local, state, and federal government entities. He emphasized the importance of staying informed about public safety notifications in one’s community.
Mario Díaz-Balart was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and resides in Miami. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida.
