Mario Díaz-Balart, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003 and a Miami resident, recently shared updates on social media about his legislative activities and reflections on Cuban dissidents.
On July 22, 2025, Díaz-Balart announced a live radio appearance discussing his new national security appropriations bill.
(July 22, 2025). A subsequent tweet included only a link: “https://t.co/OSsn7TNHep” (July 22, 2025).
Later that day, Díaz-Balart commented on the anniversary of Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas’s death: “Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas was murdered on July 22, 2012, in a car crash orchestrated by the Castro regime, in which young activist Harold Cepero also perished.
Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas and Harold Cepero’s sacrifice serves as a harsh reminder that the ruthless Cuban regime has no” (July 22, 2025).
Díaz-Balart has been an active political figure for decades. Before joining Congress in 2003 to represent Florida’s 26th District—a position he continues to hold—he served in both the Florida House of Representatives from 1988 to 1992 and the Florida Senate from 1992 to 2000. Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently residing in Miami at age sixty-one, he is an alumnus of the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
