Mario Díaz-Balart, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, announced on July 18, 2025, that the House of Representatives passed the Defense funding bill supported by the House Appropriations Committee Republicans.

In a post made on July 18, Díaz-Balart stated, “The House passed the @HouseAppropsGOP Defense funding bill, which: -Strengthens U.S. national security -Supports the brave men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces -Prioritizes cutting-edge aircraft weapons & modernization https://t.co/KLhjnujjR9”.

He further highlighted specific benefits for his district in a subsequent tweet posted moments later: “It also includes BIG WINS for FL-26! I am grateful Chairman Ken Calvert included my bill language to ensure that U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) remains strategically located in Miami, Florida. SOUTHCOM serves as a bulwark against the trafficking of drugs, transnational”.

Mario Díaz-Balart has represented Florida’s 26th District in Congress since 2003 after serving in both chambers of the Florida legislature from 1988 to 2000. Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently residing in Miami, Díaz-Balart is an alumnus of the University of South Florida.
