Mario Díaz-Balart, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, announced on July 22, 2025, the groundbreaking of PortMiami’s Phytosanitary and Cold Chain Processing Facility. The facility is described as Florida’s first and the largest in the country.
In a post on July 22, Díaz-Balart stated: “.@PortMiami’s groundbreaking for its Phytosanitary and Cold Chain Processing Facility—Florida’s first and the largest in the country—is a promise fulfilled. Through my work in Congress, I secured $44 million for this project to ensure the safe transit of produce from South”.
Díaz-Balart followed up with another statement on the same day: “This project is another example of my track record in delivering for our community and the state of Florida. I remain committed to advocating for priorities that foster economic growth, support local jobs, and enhance U.S. national security.”
He also highlighted collaboration with local partners: “Great working with @iflymia and @portmiami for their continued dedication, and partnership in identifying suitable land at MIA for the construction of this facility, and addressing the associated barriers. I look forward to continuing to deliver to South Florida on creative”.
Díaz-Balart has held his congressional seat since 2003 after serving in both chambers of Florida’s legislature between 1988 and 2000. He was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently resides in Miami. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida.
