Mario Díaz-Balart, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, marked the anniversary of a significant event in Cuban history and commented on Florida’s economic achievements in a series of recent posts. Díaz-Balart, who was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and resides in Miami, has also served in both chambers of the Florida legislature.
On July 13, 2025, Díaz-Balart reflected on the sinking of the “13 de Marzo” tugboat by Cuban authorities. He stated, “Thirty-one years ago today, the murderous Cuban regime committed one of the most cruel and atrocious crimes against the Cuban people. The 13 de Marzo tugboat was maliciously destroyed, taking the lives of at least 37 innocent people, including children. The youngest victim,” referencing an incident that resulted in numerous civilian deaths.
Later that day, Díaz-Balart reiterated his message in Spanish for his constituents and followers. La víctima”, again highlighting the loss of life caused by this event.
On July 14, 2025, Díaz-Balart shifted focus to Florida’s economic performance. He wrote: “Proud to represent the Sunshine State as it ranks first place for a third year in a row as one of the strongest economies in the country.
Florida leads the way in supporting small businesses, job growth, international trade, business climate, and opportunity.”
Díaz-Balart is an alumnus of the University of South Florida with a BA degree.
