Mario Díaz-Balart marks Kabul attack anniversary and honors Allapattah business community

Mario Díaz-Balart, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, posted a series of messages on August 26, 2025, addressing both national remembrance and local economic recognition.

In his first post of the day, Díaz-Balart commemorated the anniversary of the terrorist attack at Abbey Gate outside Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport. He wrote: “Four years ago, our country tragically lost thirteen brave service members during the horrific terrorist attack at Abbey Gate outside of Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport. In honor of their service, I reintroduced the “13 Folds of Honor Act” in tribute to the 13 lives” (August 26, 2025).

Shortly after this message, he shared a separate link without further comment: “https://t.co/ASUmVRsaKf” (August 26, 2025).

Later that afternoon, Díaz-Balart congratulated a Miami neighborhood for its recognition by a state program. He stated: “Congratulations to Allapattah on being named Florida Main Street Program of the Month for August 2025! Mom-and-pop shops across Florida’s 26th District are the heart and soul of our local economy. I’m proud to support efforts that champion small businesss and protect American” (August 26, 2025).

Díaz-Balart has served as a member of Congress since 2003 after previous terms in both chambers of the Florida Legislature. Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently residing in Miami, he holds a BA from the University of South Florida.
