Mario Díaz-Balart, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, posted several statements on social media expressing his condolences following the death of David Schaecter, a Holocaust survivor and personal friend.
On September 4, 2025, Díaz-Balart wrote: “I am deeply saddened by the loss of David Schaecter, a dear friend and Holocaust survivor.
I last had the privilege of meeting with David and his wife, Sam Dubbin, in May of this year in my Washington, D.C. office. Sam works tirelessly for Holocaust survivors and their families. https://t.co/p5YYLcc6m5“

Díaz-Balart has served in Congress since 2003 after previously holding positions in both chambers of Florida’s state legislature. He was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently resides in Miami. He is an alumnus of the University of South Florida.
