Mario Díaz-Balart, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, has expressed condolences and shared updates on his legislative activities through a series of social media posts in August 2025.

On August 11, Díaz-Balart posted messages in both Spanish and English mourning the death of Colombian politician Miguel Uribe Turbay. In Spanish, he wrote: “Me uno al pueblo colombiano en este momento de profunda tristeza por el fallecimiento de @MiguelUribeT, un joven político que era una esperanza para la democracia en su país.

Mi profunda condolencia a su familia y mi convicción de que la violencia debe ser erradicada de” (August 11, 2025). In a subsequent post in English on the same day, he stated: “I join the Colombian people in this moment of profound sadness following the passing of @MiguelUribeT, a young politician who was a hope for democracy in his country.

My deepest condolences to his family and my conviction that violence must be eradicated in #Colombia.”

On August 12, Díaz-Balart promoted an upcoming interview about his legislative work: “No se pierda mi entrevista en @AlPuntoFL con @AmbrosioU23

Mi proyecto de ley en @HouseApprops sobre Seguridad Nacional, Departamento de Estado y Programas Relacionados, refuerza la visión del presidente Trump de paz a través de la fuerza al restaurar el liderazgo https://t.co/D4qBlgeLQL” (August 12, 2025).

Díaz-Balart has been active in public service for decades. He began his political career in the Florida House of Representatives from 1988 to 1992 before serving in the Florida Senate until 2000. Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently residing in Miami, Díaz-Balart holds a BA from the University of South Florida.
