Mario Díaz-Balart, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 26th District since 2003, posted a series of statements on his Twitter account in early January 2026 addressing international human rights, support for law enforcement, and Cuban military involvement abroad.
On January 8, Díaz-Balart expressed solidarity with Iranian citizens protesting against their government. He stated, “I admire the courageous people of #Iran as they demand freedom, dignity, and basic human rights in the face of ruthless repression. While the Iranian people are risking everything to oppose the brutal regime in Iran, we stand with them until the day that they are finally free.”
The following day, marking National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on January 9, he highlighted his legislative efforts supporting local police. In his words: “Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day–a reminder that backing the blue means delivering results. With the passage of FY26 full-year funding bills and as a staunch supporter of law enforcement, I was proud to secure critical funding for Miami-Dade and Collier”.
Later that same day, Díaz-Balart addressed recent developments regarding Cuba’s military presence in Venezuela.
Díaz-Balart has a long history in public service, having served previously in both chambers of Florida’s legislature before being elected to Congress. Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1961 and currently residing in Miami, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida.
