The Miami Dolphins announced on Mar. 12 that they have signed kicker Zane Gonzalez as an unrestricted free agent.
The signing brings a veteran presence to the Dolphins’ special teams, with Gonzalez bringing experience from several teams across the National Football League.
Gonzalez has played in 78 career games over seven seasons, spending time with Cleveland, Arizona, Carolina, Washington, and Atlanta. He has made 115 out of 142 field goal attempts for an accuracy rate of 81 percent. From distances of 40 yards or more, he has converted 59 out of 82 attempts. In addition, he has made 163 out of 171 extra point attempts for a success rate of just over 95 percent. Gonzalez also appeared in three postseason games with Washington in the previous season.
He entered the league as a seventh-round pick by Cleveland in the 2017 NFL Draft. Before his professional career, Gonzalez played at Arizona State University from 2013 to 2016. During his college years, he appeared in 51 games and converted nearly 83 percent of his field goal attempts and almost 98 percent of his extra points.
The addition of Gonzalez is expected to strengthen the Dolphins’ kicking game as they prepare for the upcoming season.
