The Miami Dolphins announced on Mar. 11 that they have reached an agreement with the New York Jets to trade safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in exchange for a seventh-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, pending a physical.
The move involves a player with significant experience and accolades. Fitzpatrick has played in 120 career games, starting 115 of them over eight seasons with both Miami and Pittsburgh. His career statistics include 680 tackles, 21 interceptions—four of which he returned for touchdowns—60 passes defensed, one sack, six forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries.
Last season with Miami, Fitzpatrick started in 14 games and recorded 74 tackles, one interception, six passes defensed, one sack, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. He has also started four postseason contests during his career.
Fitzpatrick is recognized as a three-time first-team All-Pro (2019, 2020, 2022) and a five-time Pro Bowler (2019, 2020, 2022–2024). He was originally selected by Miami as the eleventh overall pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft after playing college football at Alabama.
The trade adds another draft asset for the Dolphins while giving the Jets an experienced defensive back. The transaction is subject to Fitzpatrick passing a physical before it becomes official.
