Rep. Frederica Wilson, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 24th district since 2011, recently used her social media platform to comment on national political issues and mark a presidential birthday.
On August 4, 2025, Wilson posted a celebratory message for former President Barack Obama: “Happy Birthday to our 44th President, @BarackObama!”
Later that day, she criticized what she called the “Big, Ugly Law,” writing on August 4: “The Big, Ugly Law is full of harmful cuts and changes, many of which are strategically timed to take effect after the midterm election. It’s set to hurt millions. Don’t be caught off guard!”
Continuing her critique on August 5, Wilson elaborated on the potential impact of the legislation: “The ‘Big, Ugly Law’ will kick 17 million people off their healthcare, including nearly 2 million Floridians. Hospitals will close. People will die. My Democratic colleagues and I are committed to always fighting for Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and healthcare for all.”
Frederica Wilson has been active in public service for decades. She previously served in the Florida Senate from 2002 to 2010 and in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002. Born in Miami in 1942 and currently residing in Miami Gardens, Wilson graduated from Fisk University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963.
