Rep. Frederica Wilson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 24th district, recently shared updates through her social media platform on various educational and professional opportunities in her constituency. Wilson, who has been serving in Congress since 2011 after replacing Kendrick Meek, is known for her advocacy in education and community development.
On July 7, 2025, Rep. Wilson announced that her office is accepting internship applications for the fall term in both Washington D.C. and Miami. She stated “My office is still taking internship applications for the fall in DC and Miami.” The internships offered are paid positions focusing on Communications and Legislative work, with an application deadline set for July 15th.
The following day, on July 8, 2025, Rep. Wilson expressed her pride in local schools by highlighting their achievements. She remarked “Miami-Dade and Broward County Public Schools continue to prove that we have the best schools in the nation!” This statement was made in celebration of these school districts receiving an ‘A’ rating.
On July 10, 2025, she further congratulated Miami-Dade County Public Schools for maintaining their high standards with another ‘A’ rating this year. Her tweet read “Congratulations to @MDCPS for another year achieving an A-Rating!” As a former educator and principal herself, as well as a previous member of the Miami-Dade School Board, Wilson’s commitment to education remains evident.
Frederica Wilson was born in Miami Gardens in 1942 and graduated from Fisk University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. Before joining Congress, she served in the Florida Senate from 2002 to 2010 and the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002.
