Rep. Frederica Wilson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 24th district, has expressed her concerns on social media regarding recent legislative developments affecting children’s access to nutrition. Wilson, who has been an advocate for education and welfare during her tenure, took to Twitter to voice her apprehensions.
On July 3, 2025, Wilson shared her dismay over the potential impact of cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) on children. In a tweet she stated: “I’m a former schoolteacher and Principal and I cannot fathom the fact that children will go hungry from this bill when they go to school without eating thanks to SNAP cuts and getting kicked off free and reduced lunch.”
Later that day, Wilson commented on the progression of the bill through the legislative process. She tweeted: “This bill is now headed to the President’s desk. I hope voters will remember this day of betrayal.” She further added that while the Democratic Party may not win this particular battle, there is confidence in eventual victory with divine support.
On July 4, 2025, Rep. Wilson reflected on her experiences from the Civil Rights Era as she expressed pride in political leadership: “As a product of the Civil Rights Era, I am beyond PROUD! Hakeem Hakeem Hakeem!” She reiterated determination in continuing the fight for justice.
Frederica Wilson has been serving in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Kendrick Meek. Prior to this role, she was part of both Florida’s Senate and House of Representatives and holds a degree from Fisk University.
