Peters Tallies 25 Points to Guide Sharks
The Nova Southeastern Sharks Women's Basketball team earned their sixth home win of the season, knocking off the Lions of Saint Leo, 76-70 on Wednesday night from the Rick Case Arena. McKenah Peters led the way for the Sharks, scoring 25-points on 7-14 shooting, while Madeline Hardy scored 16-points and grabbed nine rebounds in the victory.

The Sharks have won 10 of their last 11 home games against the Lions, and 16 of 18 overall, dating back to 2004.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER – After falling behind in the early moments of the game, Peters and Hardy scored five points for NSU to give the Sharks their first lead of the game, 6-5. A coast-to-coast lay-up from India Shepherd, following a steal, capped off a 9-0 run for Nova Southeastern, extending the lead to 10-5. Hardy scored six consecutive points for NSU, as the Sharks led 19-12 with less than two minutes left in the first quarter.
2ND QUARTER – Saint Leo opened the second quarter with a 6-2 run but Peters halted the run with another three-pointer, tying the contest at 24-24. The two Sunshine State Conference foes traded baskets for the rest of the first half, as the teams went into the halftime break with NSU trailing 35-34.
3RD QUARTER – Grace Gilmore started the second half with the first five points for the Sharks, giving Nova Southeastern a 39-37 advantage. Following the media timeout, Peters added another three-pointer, as NSU led 46-43. A'Lexus Bryant recorded back-to-back buckets for the Sharks, pushing the lead to 51-43.
4TH QUARTER – The Lions cut the Sharks lead to just three, 55-52, and had a fastbreak opportunity when Shepherd tallied a chase down block to halt the SLU momentum. Peters extended the Sharks lead to double digits, 62-52, with 7:12 left in the game with another three-pointer. Two consecutive buckets from Peters and Shepherd put the score at 70-64 with less than two minutes remaining, as the Sharks looked to close out the victory. NSU sealed the 76-70 win from the free throw line, improving to 10-7 on the season.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- McKenah Peters is averaging 23.6 points-per-game, and shooting 51.1% from beyond the arc over the past five games, scoring at least 20-points and recording four three-pointers in each game.
- The Sharks bench outscored the Lions bench, 20-6.
NSU travels to Tampa to take on the Spartans on Sat., Jan. 22. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
