Four Finalists Vie for Miami-Dade Schools’ Teacher of the Year Award

Miami-Dade County Public Schools recently issued the following announcement.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will host the  Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year ceremony to name the most outstanding teacher and rookie teacher 

throughout the District on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at 6:30 p.m.

The event will also be live streamed on https://dadeschools.eduvision.tv/

The four finalists for the 2023 Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of Year, the regions they represent and their schools are as follows:

North – Renee O’Conner, Miami Norland Senior High

Central – Unethia Fox, South Miami Senior High

South – Andres Cerrato, Miami Southridge Senior High

 Adult/Technical Colleges and Educational Opportunity & Access – Derek L. Bostick, South Dade Technical College

The District and United Teachers of Dade (UTD) will also recognize the 2022 Rookie Teacher of the Year finalists and announce the winner at the event. The finalists are as follows:

North – Gabriela Goitía Vázquez, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High

Central – Senide Roque, Dr. Toni Bilbao Preparatory Academy

South – Mary Martinez, Pinecrest Elementary

Adult/Technical Colleges and Educational Opportunity and Access – Brittany Cooper, Parkway Education Complex – Student Success Center

The signature sponsors include Office Depot, United Way of Miami-Dade, EdFed, and Kendall Toyota, which will present the winner with the keys to a new car. The event is made 

possible through partnerships with UTD, the Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs, the Dade Association of School Administrators, and supporting sponsor Univision 23.
