Miamidadeschool

The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) released results from the spring 2022 administration of the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Despite the many challenges brought on by the pandemic, the number of students living in poverty, and the number of English Language Learners, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) students outscored their counterparts in the State and in other large Florida districts on the FSA English Language Arts combined across all grade levels. Additionally, M-DCPS students scored higher than their counterparts statewide on the FSA Mathematics in grades 3-7.

Below are key findings from the Spring 2022 administration:

·    M-DCPS students scored higher than their peers statewide on the FSA ELA in each tested grade level.

·    There were higher increases in the percentage of students scoring in Levels 3 and above in grades 4, 5, and 7 through 10 in 2022 as compared to their counterparts statewide in 2021.

·    M-DCPS students outscored their counterparts in the State and in other large Florida districts on the FSA Mathematics, Grades 3 through 8, and the Algebra 1 and Geometry and End-of-Course (EOC) assessments combined across all grade levels.

·    In grades 3 through 8, M-DCPS demonstrated higher increases in the percentage of students scoring in Levels 3 and above on the FSA Mathematics assessment from 2021 to 2022 than statewide

·    Overall, higher percentages of M-DCPS students passed the Algebra 1 EOC, and the increases in passing rates were higher from 2021 to 2022 as compared to the State.

·    In the Spring 2022 administration of the Algebra 1 and Geometry EOCs, M-DCPS demonstrated higher increases overall than the State in the percentage of students scoring in Levels 3 and above from 2021 to 2022.

Complete District, State, and school summary reports may be accessed via the FLDOE website  and will also be made available on the Assessment, Research, and Data Analysis website at https://arda.dadeschools.net.

M-DCPS deployed a myriad of strategies to enhance and refine school support, creating a method which proved to be successful in aiding academic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools provided students with extended learning opportunities, such as before- and after-school tutoring, Saturday School, Winter Break Academy, and Spring Break Academy. Summer school programing was reimagined to address the whole child and accelerate learning. Teachers were equipped with strategies to address unfinished student learning through professional development, and schools were provided with additional funds for reading and math coaches, interventionists, and tutors.
