Florida Memorial (0-1) got off to a rough start to the season with a 7-0 loss to Barry at Broward College South Campus Field. The match marks the only non-conference contest for the Lions as they prepare for Sun Conference action later this week.
Both teams started off slow following a two-hour weather delay, but Barry (7-3) struck first in the 20th minute with the go-ahead goal. The Buccaneers then added an additional three goals in the next six minutes to pull away.
FMU goalkeeper Hailey Illinjin generated a season-high 13 saves in the loss.
The Lions return to action on Thursday, September 29 as they begin conference play and host St. Thomas. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Broward College South Campus.
