School Board Awards Construction Contracts for Four GOB Projects Valued at $51.1 Million

At its regular monthly meeting, the Miami-Dade School Board awarded contracts to four construction companies to complete General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects at Coral Gables Senior High, Alonzo & Tracy Mourning Senior High, Hialeah Middle and Carol City Middle schools valued at approximately $51.1 million.

Coral Gables Senior High School – OHLA Building, Inc. has been awarded the contract for a GOB-funded renovation project at Coral Gables Senior High School. Built in 1950, the school is bordered on the north by Bird Road and on the east by LeJeune Road and currently comprises 15 permanent buildings, with 2,909 student stations.

The proposed scope of work for this project includes complete replacement of windows and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) in four buildings, restroom remodeling, and upgrades to security camera, smoke detectors, ADA and electrical throughout the campus.

Total sub-consultant Small/Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) participation: 20.97 percent

Total sub-consultant Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) participation: 25.05 percent

Total project allocation - $18.9 million                          Completion – October 2024

Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High - Magnum Construction Management, LLC has been awarded the contract for the GOB-funded classroom addition at Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High. Built in 2008, the school is in North Miami bordered on the east by Oleta River State Park and west by Florida International University Stadium Drive. The existing school has one permanent building on 5 acres with 1,521 student stations, which will increase to 1,971 after completion of the project.

The proposed scope of work includes construction of a new, 23,387 sq-ft, three-story classroom addition with 16 classrooms and one collaboration room, two staff offices, six restrooms, an elevator, shelter/basketball courts, and a new covered walkway to connect the new building with the new facility.

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation: 8.71 percent

Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation: 22.29 percent

Total project allocation - $15.6 million                     Completion – January 2024

Hialeah Middle School – H.A. Contracting Corp. has been awarded the contract for the GOB-funded renovation and new Physical Education shelter at Hialeah Middle School. Bordered on the east by LeJeune Road and on the south by Amelia Earhart Elementary. The existing school was built between 1963 and 1996, with additions constructed afterwards, and currently comprises five permanent buildings. The facility has 1061 student stations.

The project scope for this project includes a new Physical Education (P.E.) shelter, renovations to the auditorium, including refurbished seating and lighting for the following:  emergency, aisle, stage and house. Campus-wide exterior painting and replacement of chillers and air conditioning equipment will be done at both Hialeah Middle and Amelia Earhart Elementary schools. Miscellaneous upgrades including electrical receptacles; LED and emergency lighting and fire-stopping also are scheduled.

Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation 5.08 percent

Total project allocation - $9.8 million                     Completion – January 2024

Carol City School – M.A.C. Construction, Inc., has been awarded the contract for the GOB-funded renovation project for the renovation project at Carol City Middle School. Located in Miami Gardens, the school was built in 1958 and comprises 10 permanent building and covered walkways with just over 85,000 square feet. The school has 1178 student stations.

The proposed scope of work for this project includes campus-wide exterior and selective interior painting, campus-wide security alarm replacement, and resurfacing and re-striping of basketball courts and parking areas. New metal doors, masonry walls, HVAC units, and an aluminum P.E. shelter canopy will be installed. Restrooms will be renovated to meet ADA compliance.

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation: 31.19 percent

Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation: 10.02 percent

Total project allocation - $6.9 million                     Completion – October 2024
