5 seniors honored on Senior Night in match vs. St. Thomas

Florida Memorial (11-8, 7-7) honored five seniors for its annual senior night, but St. Thomas played the role of spoilers in a 3-0 sweep (27-25, 25-20, 25-22) over the Lions during homecoming week. The win marked the 13th straight victory for the Bobcats as FMU fell to 7-7 in conference competition.

FMU took a late 22-20 lead in the first set before dropping three straight points, starting with a service error from senior Agustina Busque. The Bobcats ended set one on a 7-3 run and squeezed by FMU, then kept just enough distance from the Lions in set two.

In set three, the Lions trailed 19-16 before scoring three-straight points to tie the game. Both teams traded point for point until the score was tied at 22 apiece, and that's when the Bobcats went on a 3-0 to end the match.

Overall, the Lions were led by Caroline Souza and Rafaela Nogueira, who both finished with 10 kills apiece. Busque generated a team-high 19 assists while teammate Ludmilla Souza added 10.

As a team, the Lions produced 37 kills while the Bobcats finished with 39. However, FMU finished with just two aces compared to seven for St. Thomas.

On the defensive end, Souza led the team with 14 digs while Busque added nine in the loss. C. Souza, Kimberlie Correa and Shainell Taylor each produced two blocks for the Lions.

The Lions finish conference play on Saturday, November 5 as they face Ave Maria in the season finale. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in Ave Maria, Fla.
