Lions earn first conference victory as they squeeze by Coastal Georgia 83-82

FMU's Teonta McKeithen dropped 28 points in the Lions' first conference victory of the season as they squeezed by Coastal Georgia by the score of 83-82. The Lions produced four scorers in double-figures as they earned a much needed conference win to end their Georgia road-trip.

FMU held a slim three-point lead at the break and remained aggressive in the second half, shooting a total of 26 free throws for the game compared to just 11 total free throw attempts for the Mariners.

Cam'Ron Wilson and Tavin Pierre-Philippe poured in 19 and 18 points respectively, while teammate Miles-Jordan Smartt added 13 in the win.

In a close competitive contest, both teams were nearly identical in every statistical category: Rebounds - FMU 44, CGU 43; Turnovers - FMU 8, CGU 9; Assists - FMU 11, CHU 13; Blocks - FMU 4, CGU 4; Steals - FMU 6, CGU 4; Points off turnovers - FMU 13, CGU 13; Bench points - FMU 5, CGU 6.

In the final moments of the game, the FMU defense forced a turnover as Coastal Georgia had a shot to win the game with a basket.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday, December 13 as they face Nova Southeastern in an exhibition game. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale.
