Florida Memorial snapped a 20-game losing streak to Southeastern and won a game on the road in Lakeland for the first time since 2006, defeating the Fire 80-69 in the Furnace in Sun Conference action. Lions guard Aliyah-Deen Ahmad finished with a season-high 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field, including five rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block in 35 minutes. Ahmad also connected on six of her eight free throws.
As a team, the Lions jumped out to a huge first quarter lead (27-14) and never looked back. FMU generated 32 points in the paint compared to 26 for the Fire.
Florida Memorial continued their pressure, turning defense into offense all afternoon as they converted 14 points off of 16 Fire turnovers.
FMU's Tianna Ayulo produced a double-double in the victory, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 boards while teammate Chantel Barnett generated 16 points, six boards and two steals for the Lions, who improve to double-digit victories on the season (10-5, 5-1 SUN).
The Lions return to action on Saturday, January 7 as they host Ave Maria. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
