Junior Varsity Schools Premier Prospects

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The junior varsity Bucs schooled Premier Propects in a twinbill Wednesday afternoon at Feinbloom Field, winning 7-0 and 11-1, including the program's first no-hitter in game two.

SUMMARY:
GAME 1:

  • B1 - The Bucs got on the broad in the first. Dylan Ecken beat out a bunt single, stole second and scored on a base hit by Freddie Rodriguez. | Barry 1, PPA 0
  • B2: CJ Bussell reached on an error by Prospect third baseman Wilmis Castro and scored on a single by Nicolas Garcia.  | Barry 2, PPA 0
  • B5: Barry batted around and scored five runs in the fifth. Aramis Ramirez, Jr., had an RBI single and Brodie Jellum doubled with the bases loaded to drive in three. Jellum later scored on an error. | Barry 7, PPA 0

GAME 2:

  • B2: Akira Nakamura got the offense rolling for the Bucs, with a double down the left-field line. After a balk, he scored on a single by Andrew Perez. Perez came around and scored on a wild pitch. | Barry 2, PPA 0
  • T3: The Prospects got their only run of the day in the third. Kelvin Reyes drew a lead off walk, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk. | Barry 2, PPA 1
  • B3: Barry batted around in the bottom of the frame, scoring five runs. Hector Vilorio blasted a lead-off homer. After walks to Vincenzo Macolino and Nakamura, and Macolino scored on a wild pitch, Luis Moralles and Perez ripped back-to-back RBI doubles and Ramirez capped the socring with a single up the middle. | Barry 7, PPA 1
  • B4: The Bucs batted around again in the fourth. Vilorio was hit by a pitch and Macolino followed with a base hit through the left side. Prospects pitcher Zahir Miranda was called for the first of several balks in the inning, allowing Vilorio to score. Damian Tomayo walked and Nakamura was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Moralles singled to drive in Macolino, Tomayo scored on another balks and Nakamura came across on a fly out by Perez. | Barry 11, PPA 1
  • T5: With a no-hitter on the line, Barry starter Cole Frye struck out the side in the fifth to finish off the first no-hitter in program history. The game was halted on the run-rule.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Frye (1-0) went five innings to earn the win in game two. He allowed a run on a walk, but no hits, and struck out 10.
  • Nick Groover (2-1) got the win game one. He worked three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and three walks and struck out five.
  • Roger Camacho, in game one, and Jadel Marerro took the losses for Premier Prospects.
  • Perez went 2-for-2 with three RBI to lead Barry at the plate. Jellum also drove in three, while Ramirez, Moralles and Garcia each has two hits as well.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs are off next week for spring break, but return to action on Monday, Mar. 13 in a 1:00 pm game with Post. The Eagles also play the varsity that day at 6:00 pm.
