WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), President of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere of the Committee on Foreign Relations, has sent a letter to the Biden Administration urging for Paraguay to be included in the group of countries that make up the Association of the Americas for Economic Prosperity (APEP).

APEP is the economic growth framework proposed by President Biden between the Administration and our partners throughout Latin America. By not including Paraguay in the network of countries that make up this association, the United States is turning its back on a crucial and steadfast ally.

"If APEP is a group of friendly democracies to the United States, then Paraguay absolutely belongs on that list," wrote Congresswoman Salazar. "President Biden, do the right thing and include Paraguay where it belongs: in APEP, with the friends of the United States."

In recent decades, the Chinese Communist Party has been pushing to establish economic and military dominance over the Americas. Apart from predatory loans and infrastructure projects, the Chinese government is working with our adversaries in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua to build military and espionage facilities right in our backyard.

"All of South America now only recognizes the People's Republic of China, except for Paraguay, which continues to support Taiwan," Congresswoman Salazar highlighted. "Furthermore, Paraguay was one of only 14 countries that defended Israel at the United Nations. Paraguay continues to offer the United States and the free and democratic nation of Taiwan its utmost loyalty and commitment to the values we appreciate."

Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar represents a vibrant Paraguayan community as the representative of the city of Miami in Congress.
