Miami, FL - Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) has recently honored a group of local veterans with the Congressional Veteran Commendation. The commendation is part of a nominations-based program that aims to recognize the wartime sacrifices and peacetime community involvement of veterans residing in Florida's 26th Congressional District.

The recipients of this commendation have been selected based on their exceptional service and dedication to their country. As part of the recognition, the honorees will be interviewed, and their wartime collections will be added to the Veterans History Project, which is sponsored by the Library of Congress.

One of the veterans honored is Major William E. Knickerbocker, who served in the Army. Major Knickerbocker, who resides in Hialeah, FL, has shown unwavering commitment and bravery throughout his military career.

Another veteran recognized is Sergeant Alvaro Hernandez, also from Hialeah, FL, who served in the Army. Sergeant Hernandez's dedication to serving his country both during wartime and in his community has been commendable.

Through the Congressional Veteran Commendation, Congressman Díaz-Balart aims to not only acknowledge the sacrifices made by these veterans but also to preserve their stories for future generations. By adding their wartime collections to the Veterans History Project, their experiences and contributions will be documented and shared with the larger community.

Congressman Díaz-Balart expressed his gratitude for the service of these veterans, stating, "It is an honor to recognize and thank Major William E. Knickerbocker and Sergeant Alvaro Hernandez for their selfless dedication and sacrifices. These individuals have demonstrated exceptional bravery and commitment to our nation, both during times of conflict and in their ongoing contributions to our community."

The Congressional Veteran Commendation serves as a reminder of the importance of honoring and supporting our veterans. Through programs like the Veterans History Project, their stories and experiences can be preserved and celebrated, ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten.

As we express our appreciation for the service of Major William E. Knickerbocker and Sergeant Alvaro Hernandez, let us also remember and honor all veterans who have selflessly served our country. Their contributions and sacrifices deserve our utmost respect and gratitude.
